Land Base Space Launch System in the Federative Republic of Brazil
Joint Ukrainian and Brazilian Project for a launching site with complete infrastructure was accomplished based on the Long-Term Co-operation Agreement as regards use of the “Cyclone-4” carrier-rocket at the launching site in Alcântara, state of Maranhão, the Federative Republic of Brazil. The Agreement in question had been ratified by the Law of Ukraine No. 1429-IV dated February 4, 2004. In 2004, based on the decision to create a launching site in question, SE MODU “Central design institute” was appointed responsible for providing initial data and space and planning solutions on the “Cyclone-4” Land Base Space Launch System (LB SLS). In compliance to the agreement signed with “Yuzhnoye” Design Office SE MODU “Central design institute” elaborated pre-project proposals as regards selection of site to locate the “Cyclone-4” LB SLS, provision of land survey and elaboration of design documentation on buildings and facilities; moreover, preliminary solutions on the launching site location were also made. Further on, based on an Agreement signed between SE MODU “Central design institute” and a Joint Ukrainian and Brazilian Company established under the auspices of the National Space Agency of Ukraine and Space Agency of Brazil – Binational Company “Alcântara Cyclone Space” – SE MODU “Central design institute” accomplished design documentation on the “Cyclone-4” LB SLS construction comprising the following areas of the Facility: TSA – the Temporary Storage Area; TC – the Technical Complex Area; LC – the Launch Complex Area; CP – the Command Post Area.
